ReplyDeleteWe make sure to reach out to the elderly friends and relatives who especially appreciate being remembered at the holidays. Many of them did so much when we were young to make our holidays cheery, now it is our turn to make the extra effort.
ReplyDeleteI work at a nursing home and during the holidays I love to do little extra things for the residents, since many have family that never visits it seems to put a smile on there faces.

To spread holiday cheer, I cook lots of food, have good wine and music. Invite people who I know won't be celebrating with their own families to join us on Christmas day!

ReplyDeleteMy children are now 21 and 26 - we always plan one Saturday in December to make Santa cookies ( dozens of them!) gift box them up and give them to family and friends! The cookies always make people smile! While we are making the cookies hubby is setting up the tree and after all the cookies are done we decorate the tree listening to Christmas music sipping hot cocoa! We have been doing this every year since they were 3 and 8!

It depends. In the past I have baked pound cakes to deliver. Generally try to make a serious donattion to someone who will be without for the holidays. Christmas stockings for Salvation Army. Goodies for staff at the assisted living facility where my mom is.
ReplyDeleteI love baking goodies to give, but also I love spreading cheer by being kind to the sales people this time of year. They take a lot of crap, and I try to always remember they deserve a smile and kind word.

ReplyDeleteWe always give our garbage collectors presents. Sometimes it is a homemade pound cake all wrapped in cello with Christmas napkins and forks, one year I gave them warm socks and holiday chocolates. My husband baked a turkey breast for them for Thanksgiving and put mayo, bread, a jar of pickles, napkins and such in a big bag for their lunch that day last week. They are city workers who do a "thankless" job that is essential to our everyday lives and they have such sweet and happy faces when they see us walk out of the back door. Makes us feel good too!
