Welcome to day 5 of the Moda Friendship Blog Hop Quilt Along! So many thanks to you for stopping by and spending some time with me today. And thanks to Moda for hosting all this fun and for providing such generous giveaway loot for you! If you've missed any days so far, you may want to go back to this post to see the blogging schedule and to get caught up.
Each Moda designer has created their own block to share with you … our friends! You'll be able to collect a total of 28 (i think?) different 9" quilt block designs that you can use in your sewing projects. Moda's blog post on March 1st will give a setting option to make a sampler quilt using some of the blocks.
So today, Kaari, Lynne and i get to share our friendship block designs with you. I made this block using three of the prints from my newest fabric collection, Honey Honey that is in stores now. You can download the instructions for how to make it here.
Actually, all the individual blocks you're collecting would make really nice quilts on their own wouldn't they? Here's a look at how this one would repeat.
If you haven't had a peek at Honey Honey yet, here's an glimpse of the coral, soft orange and pink color range...
...and the periwinkle, turquoise and navy range.
This collection is abundant with blooms of hydrangea, roses, lavender, daisies, phlox and a bouquet of other summery florals. There are also prints featuring honeycombs, buzzing bees and intricate lacework. Honey Honey is a colorful antidote to the winter we've been having around here lately. This was the view out our garage door the morning after 34" of snow was dumped here in Connecticut a couple weeks ago...
...i'd much rather stay inside, sit by the fire and look at all the pretty things people have been making with Honey Honey already! Sherri made this cute quilt called Drop designed by Carrie Nelson:
And Carly made this sweet baby girl quilt. The pattern is called Sweet as Honey and is available here.Rebecca made this beautiful quilt called Aura. She used a navy solid from Primitive Muslins by Moda for the background and i love how it makes the colors sparkle. The pattern is available in Rebecca's new book called Seamingly Scrappy.
Julie Herman's quilt pattern called Science Fair is on my "someday sewing" list. Once i get brave enough to attempt any sewing with hexagons, that is! For a complete list of where to find Science Fair and other Jaybird patterns, please visit Julie's website.
There are also some fun and free projects using Honey Honey that have been featured on the Moda Bake Shop recently:
Prairie Traditions Quilt by Karen Ackva
If that's not enough, here is a free pattern from me too!
And because we're celebrating friendship as much as quilting, i had another idea. In addition to working with Moda, i license my art and designs to a number of companies who make various products. You may have seen my previous post about these cupcake wrappers i designed that are now available at Michaels Craft Stores.
Well, they're too cute to be sitting around...empty. So Pete and i made a bunch of these (that's a link to the recipe)...
...and took them on the road for some surprise cupcake deliveries to a few of our dear friends. First, we stopped at Kate's house. She's always ready to laugh and have a good time. I love that about her.
Then i knocked on the back door at Bridie and Joe's house. I think they decided to let us in once they saw the frosting (Joe loves cake no matter what size or shape it takes).
Look how cute and surprised they were!
We didn't even have enough time to take our coats off and Joe was already halfway through one of his sweet treats. Joe will be 93 this year. I think i'll start to eat more cupcakes.
Then we stopped over at Debra and Ed's house. Debra was happy to have some cupcakes...
...but really just wanted a hug.
What i learned: Surprise cupcakes make friendships extra sweet. As a little reminder of this small and random act, i created this freebie download just for you!
Hang it by your desk, in your kitchen, next to your sewing machine or print it out and send it to a friend (along with a few cupcakes).
Thank you so much for stopping by for a fun visit! Please join me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram where i share daily news and updates, but mostly i love to show off your beautiful sewing and craft projects. Chime in anytime and join the conversation!
So are you ready for a giveaway after reading all of that?? Moda has generously provided a jelly roll and a dessert roll of Honey Honey that i'll give away to two lucky winners. A dessert roll is a new precut made up of 20 prints from a single collection that are 5" wide x the width-of-fabric long. So many possibilities!
To enter to win one of these, please leave either your favorite quote about friendship or a comment about something nice you've done for a friend or that a friend has done for you recently. Just one entry please. Random winners will be announced on Monday morning. Until then, you'll have the weekend to take a break from all the blog hopping — but rest up for next week when you can visit all these talented designers:

One of the nicest things a friend ever did for me was take me on a quilt shop spree for my birthday. It was the most fun ever! :D
ReplyDeleteLove your block!
I recently purchased some yarn from a blog friend. When it came, it was in the cutest fabric knitting bag. Nobody ever makes things for me because I make so many things myself. It made my day.
ReplyDeleteI sent a jelly roll to my good friend who has just started quilting so that we can do a quilt along although we are miles apart.
ReplyDeleteI recently made a dinner for a friend who is pregnant and having a very hard time of it. I ran it around to her at dinner time as one of things she is finding difficult is to cook as it makes her very sick. She loved it and was so grateful but mostly I loved helping out such a dear friend.
ReplyDeleteThe Mom of my daughter's good friend is in CA for 3 mo to babysit Her 6 mo old Grandson. Young Mom is a softball coach and the season makes for long days. Grandma is alternating with one other sitter so we have been having our own private quilt run days with lunch every week. I get to tour the local stores and spend the afternoon chatting and she gets some time with someone ( me) who loves to quilt too. Yesterday I showed her how to English Paper Piece. Fun!
ReplyDeleteCupcakes must be the theme of the week because I made cupcakes for a morning tea and invited all the mums from my sons class. It was a lot of fun, not too much work and they were all so thankful that I had organised it.

ReplyDeleteSuch sweet photos you shared. I want a cupcake too! :)
"I get by with a little help from my friends" great song and a great quote! Love your new line and the block. Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteChi trova un amico, trova tesoro.

My sweetheart is in the hospital now, having had surgery and experiencing some complications. I am humbled and strengthened by the love and support of my friends--including my dear nieces. Their calls, their prayers, their "good energy" keeps me steadfast and brave; they support me and I can then support him.
ReplyDeleteMy best friend for almost 20 years lives 3000 km from me, in different country, But steel, I send her a birthday and a Cristmas gift every year, Now, she has a little baby girl, so I am sending another gift. true friendship is a true gift:)
ReplyDeleteThank you for a biuterful block and post.
“Oil and perfume make the heart glad, and the sweetness of a friend comes from his earnest counsel” (Prov. 27:9).
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great block (my favorite so far!) and the recipe!
A good friend support If she need help
ReplyDeleteFriends are like family, except you get to choose them, and they you.
ReplyDeleteMy friend bought me a huge and lovely bouquet of flowers for my 60th birthday last week and sent them to me at work. I already had a bouquet at home from my hubby so I got to enjoy beautiful flowers all week long.
ReplyDeletemine would be taking time from work to help my daughter with her new baby that is coming this morning and buying a cake for my other daughter who we are celebrating the blessing of her marriage Sunday.

I made a table runner for a friend as xmas gift. She loved it so much that she brought me another xmas gift (she gave me one before already). BTW it was cookies;-)
ReplyDeletehildy(at)ebertzeder(dot)de
A friend is someone who knows your weeknesses and still loves you!
ReplyDeleteLove this quote! Thanks for the lovely block!
What fun you had delivering your cakes! you can come to my house any day you want!
ReplyDeleteMy best friend has always been there for me when things are tough - no huge gestures but hundreds of little things
Friendship is like a violin; the music may stop now and then, but the strings will last forever.
ReplyDeleteMy ex next door neighbour turned 30 this week, she doesn't enjoy birthdays - so the children and I baked her a chocolate cake and took it over to her house where we spent a crazy afternoon having fun.
ReplyDeletethanks for the giveaway
I sent some fabric to a friend who was making a quilt for another friend.
ReplyDeleteMaking a baby blanket for my friend's soon-to-be-born daughter (her son uses his blanket made by me for three years now).
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who helps me take my mother-in-law to doctor appts, etc. so I don't have to take so much time off work.
ReplyDeleteI made an I spy quilt for the first granddaughter of a dear friend at work, the look on my friend's and her daughter's face when I gave it to her was such a special moment.
ReplyDeleteI love just getting together with my two good friends and chatting about everything. I especially love that they know when to advise & when to just listen.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway :-)
When ever I bake cakes I do 2 extra, one for each of my neighbours. Yesterday it was a sponge with mincemeat and diced apple. On Saturday it will be Chocolate cup cakes and possibly some scones.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite friendship quotes--I love quotes, so I have a few--would be from C.S. Lewis. “Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: "What! You too? I thought I was the only one.”
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! I love the big florals in this line.
Hi Kate! First I wanted to say that I love the idea of furry Friday. Franny looks just like my Mom's cat, Ringer . . . they are such great companions! Anyway, back to fabric . . . I love the pink, orange & coral colors of your new fabric line. Flower & bees just make me smile :o)
ReplyDeleteRegarding friendship: I have a rare bone marrow disease & will have to do daily chemo treatment for the rest of my life. My best friend, Nancy, calls & visits me often! She takes me to guild meetings & on garden tours (which I just LOVE!) Her friendship mean the world to me & I hope to always be a great friend to her. So I think friendship is demonstrated in all the little things we do for each other to show that we care enough to take the time out of our day to make someone else feel special! Sorry this was so long! Keep on stitching & and sharing your life with others . . . it really makes a difference!
A friend and I are flying up to visit another friend where it is really cold and lots of snow, we are going to surprise her DH with a wonderful dinner, she lived down here with us and now has moved far away.
ReplyDeleteHer DH misses our tinkles of laughter as we used to meet every week and laugh and stitch he will be surprised to see us and many of his family members (shh it is a little secret)
this will be a wonderful weekend in their new home breaking it in with quilters good cheer and warmth.
"The better part of one's life consists of his friendships."
ReplyDelete- Abraham Lincoln
I am not one of those people who has a lot of friends, my best friends are actually my family, and the two who are not related by marriage or blood, well, they are like sisters to me. Sadly, I haven't seen them in years because of the miles between us. My grand plan is to make these two lovely ladies a friendship quilt each, just to say, "Hey, I love you."
ReplyDeleteMy friend sends me custom charm packs - she cuts a square off each piece of fabric she buys, how kind is that?!
ReplyDeleteone of my best friend is my mom and we quilt together when ever we can
ReplyDeleteOne of my best quilting buddies likes many of the same fabrics that I do, so when I find something really nice I'll pick up an extra half yard to give to her.
ReplyDeleteI don´t have many friends but has friends. My best friend ,who aren´t family, call me everyday when my father was ill and she is allways there when I need her.I`m very thankful!!
ReplyDeleteAfter the blizzard here 2 weeks ago my neighbor used his snow blower to clear my sidewalk, then after last week's snow, a city plow saw me shoveling my driveway and cleared it for me. They may not be my friends, but these random nice things made a big difference to me. Love the smiles your surprize brought to everyone's faces. And love the fabric line, of course.
ReplyDeleteI make bags or small quilts for my friends.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the great block and giveaway!
I love the friendship pattern and your great idea for sharing with your neighbors.
ReplyDeleteJust a couple of days ago a bloggy friend was destashing and offered up a ton of great new-to-me fabrics at awesome prices so now I have 25 yards of goodies on their way to me. Friends always help friends grow their stash even more.
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely giveaway. Thank you for the chance to win.
The other day I made a lasagna for a friend who lost her mom.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
A good friend said the other day to me when I was feeling particularly low about something: "If something doesn't go right, go left" and it made me chuckle and I started to feel better about the problem. Good friends are hard to come by so when you find one - keep them!! Lovely giveaway :)
ReplyDelete"A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words." - Unknown.... Thanks for the Friendship Quilt Along project and sharing your story about the friendship cupcakes... Cupcakes definitely make friendship extra sweet!
ReplyDeleteI am making a quilt for my Friend who does not even suspect or expect that she is going to be getting it.She is the kind of person who thinks of others first.
ReplyDelete“There is nothing better than a friend, unless it is a friend with chocolate.”
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance!
So hard to think when this is now playing in my head over and over :) Good memories of my 70s childhood.

The one I think of is basically a friend is someone who knows everything about you and loves you anyway.
I recently had to have two disks replaced in my neck and had to miss 5 weeks of teaching. One of my partners arranged for a month's worth of dinners to be brought to our house. So, 30 different teacher friends chipped in! I was speechless. It was awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the chance to win some of your beautiful fabric.
"Good friends are like quilts.. they age with you and never lose their warmth." I am blessed to have 2 lovely ladies in my life who are my 'quilts'! Well you can swing on down here to Virgina with some cup cakes if ya want too! Look as yummy as that sweet fabric!

Sometimes a phone call is all you need, whether you are the caller or the callee!
ReplyDeleteI made up a boyfriend when I was a teenager and boy did my friends make fun of me when they found out. All except one, she stood by me and never asked me why. We are still friends today 45 years later!
ReplyDeleteI just sent a dear friend a care package this past week and she was thrilled with the surprise. It included a LGD Runaround bag, simple fabric wallet to match, several chunks of oop Shangri-la fabric in blue, a cd and two DVDs, a botanical papered trinket box, a Cottages and Bungalows magazine, and a Susan Branch book - Girlfriends Forever. She moved to Colorado last fall and I miss her SO much, so I really loved gathering all these goodies especially for her!
ReplyDeleteMy sister and her husband are trying to start up a business from He has been outta work for almost a year she has been the sole provider all this time but 6 months ago she devoped tumors in the bones in one of her feet and had to undergo extensive surgury then didn;t heel then had to have bone marrow transplant into the bone from another area & pins.. etc. she has been on temporary disability..Long story ..So my husband and I went and bought all the stuff they needed to get a computer set up with wireless interenet in the small shop across their yard. So we went over and my husband installed and set everything up for them and taught then the things they needed. So that was act of kindess and friendship.
ReplyDeleteI love all of your fabrics. Last year I made two quilts for friends to raffle for their charities out of Terrain. This year I made one patriotic and the other will be a fall quilt.
ReplyDeleteOver the last few years I've been scheduled to work the midnight shift on my birthday. We don't always celebrate every birthday, but my coworker friends brought in goodies and we celebrated at 2 am with chocolate-covered strawberries, brownies, chips and dip. Even in my 50's I'm not too old to stay up and party. ;)
ReplyDeletelast week a friend from England sent me a surprise package with a very nice Quilt magazine :-)). I was so lucky and I am lucky to have this friend :-).
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Annette

I had a wall hanging size quilt that a quilter hung onto for over 9 months and wouldn't return. When I finally got it back it was not finished and had puckers and thread balls... well a friend of mine said let me take a look and see what can be done. She proceeded to take every bit of that quilting out and then requilted the whole thing AND she wouldn't let me pay her. I did of course get ther a gift cert for one of her favoritte places to eat. Thats a friend. :)
ReplyDeleteFunny you should ask . . . just yesterday I received a totally unexpected box in the mail from my sister (all the more special because it was unexpected). It contained a box of Boy Scout Light Butter popcorn (yum!) and 2 cat toys. How fun is that?
ReplyDeleteMy teaching friends had a birthday luncheon for me that six weeks later still boosts my mood. They were truly thoughtful and kind with their efforts.
ReplyDelete“A true friend is someone who thinks that you are a good egg even though he knows that you are slightly cracked.”
ReplyDelete― Bernard meltzer
My closest friends are a group of quilters I met online! I've since met many of them face to face, but it's amazing how quilting and friendship go hand in hand. Not only do we "chat" daily, but we have made many friendship quilts together - both for our own use and for friends who were ailing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win some of your Honey Honey line ... it's the only one of yours I don't have (yet!).
I didn't know a friendship quote off the top of my head, so I found this one by C.S. Lewis, “Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art… It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.”
ReplyDeleteThis quotation isn't specifically about friendship, but it expresses what I feel about my close friends: "If I had a flower for every time I thought of you...I could walk through my garden forever." I've been blessed with some wonderful friends.
ReplyDeleteI made a quilt for my friend a couple of years ago. It was to be a birthday gift. However, she was going through a tough time, she was visiting me about a month before her birthday and I decided to give her the quilt that day(amazingly, it was done!). She was thrilled and surprised.
ReplyDeleteThe Honey Honey line is great - cheery and bright.
“It is not a lack of love, but a lack of friendship that makes unhappy marriages.”
ReplyDelete― Friedrich Nietzsche
I have quite a few close friends but my best and closest would have to my husband. Love your lines - so colorful and beautiful. Thanks for the chance.
I have the greatest friends in the world! a couple of years ago things were tough for us & I was really down. One friend hopped an airplane and flew all the way across the country to be here for me. I don't know what I'd do without my friends!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the download to your quote - love it! So many great quotes, but this one is ever so sweet: “If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you.” (A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh) Thanks for the friendship block and perhaps a chance to win!
ReplyDeleteA friend sent me 3/4 yards of some fabric I need to make a quilt and asked for nothing in return.
ReplyDeleteI took dinner and dessert to my friend's house unexpectedly. I just put it on the porch, drove up the street and called her to open the door. She and her family were so surprised. Thank you for the beautiful pattern.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite friend quote..."thru thick of thin I'll be your friend, through ups and downs I'll be your friend, through good and bad I'll be your friend"

My friends and I like to get together and hand quilt a quilt, just like the old fashioned quilting bees. It is a great time to fellowship!

Proverbs 18:24 "A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother."
Recently a friend helped dig my car out of the snow so I could drive home after a long day at work. It may not sound like a lot, but it meant everything, since it was dark - and cold! I love your quote - I've already printed it out. And I LOVE Honey Honey!
ReplyDeleteI made some mug rugs for 3 of my friends. They're Red Hatters, so I made them in red & purple. Thanks for the pattern & recipe links. And thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteFriends are like a good bra, supportive, hard to find, and always close to your heart!
I love this quote about friendship:
ReplyDelete“Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: "What! You too? I thought I was the only one.”
― C.S. Lewis
Thanks for the giveaway!
This is friendship- a hug is like a boomerang-you get it back right away!
ReplyDeleteI'm recently widowed and this was my first Valentine's Day without him. My sweet, darling financial guy stopped by on his way home and brought me a rose and small box of chocolates. Just before that, my niece and her two rugrats also brought me flowers and the boys gave their FAVORITE aunt a couple of adorable cards.
ReplyDeleteI think food is a great way to show your friendship for someone. warm pot of soup, or some fresh baked rolls, or a frozen treat like raspberry torte from Trader Joes. Thanks for the give away.
ReplyDeleteI have the most wonderful friends and neighbors, in the world. About 7 yrs ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 40. When my neighbors found out they arranged to cook for our family of 3, 2x aWeek for 3 months, they even made a calendar so I would remember. Many of them, included my parents who live around the corner and were helping me, (my son was 6 at the time). I had made dinner for many of them, after they came home from the hospital with new babies, or had surgery. I never would have thought or expected such an out pouring of love and friendship from so many friends, I am truly blessed. Knowing that they were coming gave me the energy to get dressed and greet them, talk for a few minutes, smile and joke around. They gave my family and I so much more than dinner, so much more. It's a debt of kindness I can never repay. ;-> Toni Anne
ReplyDeleteThe nicest thing a friend ever did for me was sending a surprise massage therapist in the middle of a particularly stressful time.
ReplyDeleteMy friend took on my two little ones so I could rest while my husband was on duty with our newborn! True friendship! Love the bright colors and patterns in honey honey
ReplyDeleteI will go with "If friends were flowers, I'd pick you". I have a wonderful friend, we met on the first day of first grade and have been besties for 60 years, my life wouldn't be the same without her. Thanks for a chance to win, love Honey Honey.
ReplyDeleteYou're the best, Kate Spain! I love this post, with or without a giveaway!!! It has been a wonderful friendship week for me! A longtime friend sent me some "friendship soup" (dry ingredients layered in a ball jar)and a yummy Christy's candle and some pear butter! Such a sweet surprise! So I made her a log cabin "table topper" to go with some coasters that are just right for her warm cozy kitchen! Happy day to you!!!
ReplyDelete"The only way to have a friend is to be one." Ralph Waldo Emerson It looks like you're a good friend. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to pay attention to building a friendship with my 4 year old daughter. She decided she want to sew (and iron). So I took the 30 minutes the baby was sleeping and we sewed a pocket (her idea/"design") together--I let her choose the fabric and we worked together to sew it--then she gave it to her friend.
ReplyDeleteI just finished an I Spy quilt for my sister and her first grandchild.
ReplyDeleteMost recent thing I did for a friend is loan my AccuQuilt cutter and told her no rush keep as long as you need. I love your post today, so fun. Really like your Friendship printout, I think it would be cute made into a mini quilt.
ReplyDelete"A friend is someone who reaches for your hand, but touches your heart"
ReplyDeleteI went and looked through the sayings my friends have sent me and they all refer to helping me bury bodies or call me crazy and insane, maybe that is the true measure of friendship, LOL.
While out with some friends, I purchased a birthday cake for a complete stranger who was celebrating her birthday with only her son. The staff at the eatery brought the cake out to her and made a big birthday fuss over her. Myself and my friends joined the staff and I think before the night was through, she had the best surprise birthday party ever. Making others happy is a feeling that can't be bought. It has to be experienced to be fully appreciated. Thanks for the chance at winning. Do you want to be neighbors? I could use an unexpected cupcake some days, LOL!
ReplyDeleteI love the saying "True friendship isn't about being inseperable, it's being seperated and nothing changes". I moved abroad several years ago so I do not see some of my friends that often any more, and with our busy lives we do not always have time to stay in close contact. Even so I know they are always there for me, as I am for them, and when we do get a chance to meet up it is as if we have never been apart.
ReplyDeleteLiterally, just last night when meeting wonderful people for dinner, I had a "goodie" bag for our hostess: Two sewn Microwave Potato Bags and a sewn, monogrammed iPad cover. The smile on her face was priceless!
ReplyDeleteThe nicest thing my friend has done is sense when I just need some time to talk and will treat me to lunch out. It's the gifts of caring that mean the most.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote is, "A friend is someone who walks in when others walk out." by Walter Winchell
ReplyDeleteYou can always tell a real friend: when you've made a fool of yourself he doesn't feel you've done a permanent job.

My friends have been great helpers/visitors/food makers since we delivered our little bundle of joy two weeks ago! I can't wait to return the favor when they have children!
ReplyDeleteMy husband recently had open heart surgery and my friends were the best! They supported me, listened, prayed and reminded me that everything was going to be okay. And they were right! Family and friends are what matter most!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter (who is my best friend) calls me every day to let me vent and then cheer me up since she knows that this is a stressful time of the year for me.
ReplyDeleteFirst love your fabric!!!!I am in a "pay it forward" group. You list it on facebook that the first five people to respond will receive a hand made gift in the next year,if they respond and repost so they repay it to another five people. Fun Fun, exciting to make a gift for your friends.
ReplyDeleteMy best friend surprised me with two rescued male siamese kittens for my birthday this past December. I had been having a bit of a rough winter and he knew just what was needed. He would know, of course, because he better after four kids and 17 years of marriage! How could it get any better than that? Well, two month later he took me back to the same shelter and we adopted a black and white adult female cat. The boys are named Ford and Arthur (from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy) and the girl kitty is Bubbles. Every day is Furry Friday at our house!
ReplyDeleteMy friends have organized a virtual baby shower for me, since we live all over the country. It has made me feel so loved!
ReplyDeleteI talked to a friend who is dealing with depression, and told her how much she is loved and appreciated, which made her feel better about herself.
ReplyDeleteLove my friends! They are always doing something really thoughtful for me! I love that we encourage one another through our projects and are always willing to share anything anyone might need! Beautiful fabric and love the block!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote is sorta of about friendship,
ReplyDelete"All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my mother."
~Abraham Lincoln
It's one of my very favorites!
The sweetest thing that friend has ever done for me was to take my 3 year old son for a movie afternoon shortly after I had my second child... it was unexpected and much appreciated. The gesture was a double dip because my son had a blast!
ReplyDeleteI have one special friend who's been sick lately. I made a pot of potato soup and baked her a cake for her bitthday and went to her house to cheer her up. That's what friends are for.
ReplyDelete“When it hurts to look back, and you're scared to look ahead, you can look beside you and your best friend will be there.”
ReplyDeleteThis statement is so me. Thanks for the block and giveaway.
I recently made dinner for a friend who's mother-in-law passed away. Rose W.
ReplyDelete"Friendship is love with wings." I like this one.
ReplyDeleteI have moved recently to a different region of the US and really miss spending time with family and friends, but we have a saying: "Closeness has nothing to do with distance." Thank goodness, we are as close as ever even though we are far apart.
ReplyDeleteMy sister is one of my dearest friends and it was a blessing to both of us to recently attend a sit an sew. She was able to use the fabic I purchased for her to complete a beautiful tote bag and we all know how good it feels to create something.
ReplyDeleteFriendship is so very important. A good friend of my husband's was having a hard time and forced to live with a relative. We found out that often he would end up sleeping in his car because they didn't hear him knock at the door to come in. I wouldn't have that so we fixed up a guest room and told him he could stay as long as he needed to with the freedom to come and go as he pleases. It always feels good to help others.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your fabric and designs.
My friend came over and watched my sleepless newborn while I showered and slept. Talk about helping a friend in need! Ill never forget it! :)

ReplyDeleteI love your lines of fabric!! I recently used Cuzco to do a Bounce quilt by Miss Rosie and was showing my friend. It brought her right back to a festival in Peru she attended. She brought out her photo albums and was so impressed with your coloration of her memories!!! Loved it!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this block tutorial. But even more, thanks for inspiring friendship. Love the cupcake deliveries and stories. One of the people dear to my heart always texts when she needs prayer (need and thanksgiving) for something in her life. Love that she trusts me enough to do that.
ReplyDeleteMy momma always told me "to have a friend you have to be a friend" Your honey honey collection is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteCindy H.
We just downsized and moved into a small neighborhood of like-minded people. For Christmas (before I broke my arm) I made seven different Christmas cookies and packed them in special holiday keepsake metal containers for each neighbor... lovely way to meet and get to know them.
ReplyDeleteHoney, honey is the fabric line I have waited for to make my periwinkle, coral and lime quilt. Thanks from Judy C for this wonderful opportunity.
This was definitely an inspiring experience to read about, thanks for sharing. "It's nice to be be important, but it's more important to be nice" Love the fabric!!!
ReplyDeleteWhile pictures of fabric sewn a million different ways is always welcome, the pictures delivering the cupcakes just made my day. I love to cook but there was always more than my family of three, and now two since the kid's at college, could eat. We always passed around the extras. My husband used to joke that if he died I'd never have to mow the yard because men would line up for sweets. My son trades cookies at school (from mom) for use of a friend's vacuum. I asked he wanted our old one and he said, "NO!" Thanks to B. Green (comment above) that said, "Closeness has nothing to do with distance." Many of my college friends live 5 hours away and it's close to impossible to get together more than once a year. Regardless of the number of near friends I have, it's one of those girls that I go to in times of happiness and joy to share the good news.
ReplyDeleteI love your friendship quote and printed it out and will give one to a friend. The last thing I did for a friend (actually my husband's godfather) was to drive out to see him--it's about an hour away. He'll be 90 in July. This has made me think about doing more kind things for my friends. Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteA friend asked me to share her hotel room in Austin. What fun we are having at Quilt Con. I'll never be able to repay her....but, being the friend that she is, she'll never expect a repayment.
ReplyDeleteI have been in the middle of a very stressful family situation and I am so blessed to have so many friends who have come by to give me hugs and pray with me. I love living in a small town. Our friends are so willing to share and be there for us and we for them. It is fun to bake something and deliver it as a surprise. I made banana bread last week and delivered it to the church secretary.
ReplyDeleteThere is an older woman that lives across the street from my DH and myself. She is always sitting in her chair that is right by the window with the lamp on. She is either watching TV or working on her crossword book. She just has to be really cold by the window. So, I made her a nice warm flannel lap quilt to wrap around her waist and her legs. She needs to feel loved and stay warm. You are so very kind to your friends, your followers. Just everyone. Thank you for all that you do for us. Can't wait to make those cupcakes. Looking forward to be coming a winner - precuts are always wanted and can always use your free pattern. Thank you for the chance to win.

What a wonderful post. So many wonderful quilts. The best thing I did for a friend was make her a flannel quilt to take with her when she went for her chemo treatments. Thanks for the chance to win some fabric. Hugs
ReplyDeleteMy best friend Beth has always been very supportive of me, no matter what silly decisions I make. And now, after years of her encouraging me to go to college and get my degree, I'm going to graduate in May. And guess who just told me she is flying in to support me at my commencement ceremony? Best friends are the ones who don't berate you for making silly decisions; they're the ones that are happy to celebrate your victories, however late they are! :) And thank you for your fabulous color choices!
ReplyDeleteI'd have to say my favorite friendship quote would still be the words that Moda used - from many years in Girl Scouting - Make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold. Thank you for the great patterns and fabrics! And of course the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteToday I'm helping a friend paint over the blood-red walls in her new rental home.
ReplyDeleteAs an aside, I am in CT too! So I totally feel you on the mountain of snow we got. I'm thankful for the moderately warm weather that helped some of it melt -- so I can get to my mailbox finally. ;) Thanks for a lovely giveaway. All of your fabric lines are GORGEOUS. Just sayin'.
My best friend is my husband! He is deployed now and I miss him more than any words could ever describe. Thank you for this chance to win!

ReplyDeleteI always told my students in order to have a friend you need to be a friend!
Thanks for sharing your friendship quilt block. I would like to make the quilt and give it to my best friend to wrap up in (the next best thing to a hug!)
A friend from work retired last year and this week while I was traveling for work she sent me a short text to just say hi and say she missed hearing my voice. It was a quick hi, but made me smile and realize how much I missed her. Lisa in Texas
ReplyDeleteWhen my childhood girlfriends and I all turned 50, I made each of us a similar scrapquilt and enclosed the quote: "True friends make the best scraps in the patchwork of life."

The fabric looks so cheerful after all this snow in Michigan. Can't wait for spring.

Just this week I sent a care package which includes quilty treasures to my friend who is having knee replacement surgery next week. I think the Honey Honey is gorgeous, and I am being blessed with my first granddaughter in May and it would be the perfect fabric for her quilt. soardkg@fuse.net
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who will mail me notecards for no reason other than to say she is thinking of me. That always makes me smile. Thank you for the chance to win some of your gorgeous fabric. Take care and God bless, Cory
ReplyDeleteMy friends are the best. They have been over several times this week to help prepare my backyard for my daughter's 4th birthday party tomorrow! They are even showing up in a few hours to help clean the house. Love them all for the help!

ReplyDeleteI've invited a friend over for dinner this weekend. I know that she appreciates not having to cook.
ReplyDeleteI've moved quite often for my husband's career and the best way to make new friends is to visit the local quilt shop. Instant friends!!!
ReplyDeleteMy younger sister is one of my best friends. She recently gave birth to a baby girl so I have had to opportunity to share lots of baby items and advice. I also made a baby quilt for the new addition. My grandmother made quilts for all our important life events but has since passed away. I am trying to carry on the tradition. Trina
ReplyDeleteI love this post Kate. Simple acts of kindness are what you and Pete are known for...thanks for sharing--your fun day has inspired me as this weekend approaches:)

ReplyDeleteThank you for all of the great project ideas and patterns. I love how bright and cheery your fabrics are! While I am sewing, some times a person pops in my head and I know that the project is perfect for them! My last gift was a table topper for a friend who is a breast cancer survivor.
ReplyDeleteThose are some seriously darling blocks and quilts!!! One of my favorite quotes was given to me by one of my dear friends when we were both going thru similar life changing challenges. "A real friend walks in when the rest of the world walks out."

Right now I'm making a quilt for one of my friends...just because I know she'll love it :-)
ReplyDeleteI love your block and your new line... the last nice thing that I have done for a friend was watch her daughter for her, and then I gave her a quilt of mine that I finally finished that she had her eye on for awhile... I loved being able to share something she already loved with her! Thanks for the fun giveaway!
ReplyDeleteGood friends are like stars. You don't always see them, but you know they are always there.
ReplyDeleteThis post was filled with so many wonderful things. Thanks for sharing and making my day.
I love your honey, honey line. How fun it will be to use for my current gifts. I have been making snacking aprons for my sweet friends that are older or have a need for something cute to cover their clothes when they eat. I so enjoy seeing the happiness on their faces to look cute and not have to wear the typical bib when eating. It gives them their dignity and they know that I love them.
ReplyDeleteA dear friend of mine just brought over two big huge bags of batting scraps for me to use in my quilts. Isn't she sweet? Friends are great.
ReplyDeleteLove your fabric line and the cupcake wrappers are so cute! Recently I have moved into a new neighborhood and started a small quilt group, and have inspired a lady to get out her great-grandmothers quilt tops (4) scrappy, and get them quilted to give to her sisters. They are in excellent shape and just needed quilted. There are 9 of us and we have all inspired each other to complete or begin new projects. So happy to have found these lovely women to share my hobby.
ReplyDelete"Everyone comes with baggage find someone who loves you enough to help you unpack" I found this a couple of days ago I I really like it, I am so grateful that I have a few friends that help me to unpack....That is the way I feel your friends should be..

ReplyDeleteI have a dear sewing friend who I have worked with on a few challenging projects. Many times one of us will just show up at the door with either "new" scraps or new fabric as a surprise to give each other.
I love surprising friends with quilts at random times. they're always touched by the gesture.
ReplyDeleteA friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words. I was just thinking how nice a friendship quilt would be with a saying in each block...

ReplyDeleteI LOVE your quilt block and the quilts you showed using Honey Honey. My favorite quote about friendship has to be "A Friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words."
ReplyDeleteAwe, how sweet of you! Literally, lol. A friend of mine's baby girl has been in and out of the hospital alot lately so I of course made little Ellie a little quilt so she can smell home instead of that dreadful hospital stink. And I have also been doing her laundry, she has 2 other small kids too and we all know how much of our time that laundry takes so I thought I would lift that chore off of her shoulders.. Makes me feel so very grateful for my two healthy boys. Thanks for this awesome giveaway, I love Honey Honey, it's so cheerful I would probably make Ellie another quilt with this!
ReplyDeleteOn Sunday I spent the afternoon teaching a friend the very basics of how to turn on and use her very first sewing machine :)

We sang a song in Girl Scouts the 50's.
ReplyDelete"Make new friends, but keep the old.
One is silver, the other is gold".
I think that being a quilter means that as a friend you offer to make a quilt to help ease the pain. I offered to make a quilt for our next door neighbour. She recently lost her husband to cancer (just this month) and he was a big T Shirt wearer. I offered to make one with his shirts. She was so touched...so when she is ready, I will be there for her...
ReplyDeleteLife is to short to worry about the little things.
ReplyDeleteI love that you took cupcakes to your friends and I love that HoneyHoney Fabric! A friendship quote I've always liked is "The road to a friends house is never long" and just for fun..."You and I are friends, you laugh, I laugh, you cry, I cry, you jump off a bridge, I'm sure gonna miss you" :)

ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote is, "A friend knows all about you and loves you anyway." Love your Kitty picture! I am glad to see I am not the only one that thinks everything our cats do is adorable! I also take tons of pictures of our cats.
ReplyDeleteA friend is someone who will when you cannot get up lay down beside you ....:)
ReplyDeleteWe have recently moved and I had no friends in the area. That is until I started going to some local quilt meetings. The ladies here have been warm and welcoming and now I have a new group of friends. I always say that when you quilt you have friends everywhere, even if you haven't met them yet.
ReplyDeleteMy best friend just asked me to go to Hawaii with her! A family friend has a condo that we can stay at for free. Hubs is buying my plane ticket, he is my very best friend of course!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite quotes on friendahip is: There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship.
ReplyDelete- Saint Thomas Aquinas
Love those pictures and those cupcakes look yummy! Thank you so much for the chance at the giveaway!
Every 6 weeks or so, a group of my quilty friends shows up at my house to spend a day sewing, eating, and laughing. At the last get together, my friends had a lot of fun laughing at my poor quilting gloves - they (literally) were in tatters! Only a few short weeks later, I got a little package from my friend Conni - inside was a brand new pair of quilting gloves with a note telling me how much our friendship meant to her! What an awesome friend she is!

My neighbor brought us over brownies and cookies that she baked. It was a thank you for my husband helping clear the snow out of the end of their driveway.
ReplyDeleteI had quadruple bypass surgery at age 49 - no symptoms, no signs, just due to the result of a positive stress test and heart cath.........i went in for the heart catherization and woke up to this astonishing news. My friends that are truly my friends were there for me unconditionally. Through rain, through everything they were there for me and my family. I never felt alone nor as though I had no one. That is true friendship.
ReplyDeleteFriendship saves you money - "A good friend is cheaper than therapy" Love your new line. Thanks for the chance to win :-)
ReplyDeleteA couple of years ago, I gave my best friend a needlepoint canvas that she so loved. I'd done a teeny bit on it but not much. She adored working on it and that made me extremely happy to hear about the joy it was giving her. Last month, near my birthday, she called and said that she was going to be in town and had something she wanted to show me. Of course I knew it was "The" needlepoint piece which is quite large. It was. She'd had it framed and she put both of our initials on it since I'd done some of the stitching. Just exquisite. As she got ready to leave, I started walking her to her car with the frame in hand. She said, "Ellen, what are you doing?". I replied, "I am helping you to get this back in the car!". She then said, "ELLEN..........., Merry Christmas, Happy Birthday and all of that. This is for you and your granddaughters!!". I started crying, then she started crying, and both of us were in the front yard making a "sight" as we say here in the South! She is a dear friend and wonderful stitcher. This was truely a gift of Love. We've known each other for 25 years (we are both 62), but just realized that we were in each other's first grade class together and our senior year of high school. In between, she lived all over as a military child and we didn't meet again until 25 years ago. I also introduced her to her husband and they are living happily everafter.
ReplyDeleteThank you for letting me share my bff story and thank you for sharing your beautiful designs with us!!
Ellen
